Born in 1974 in Sofia, Andrey graduated from the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia in 2000. After taking part in several talent programmes in Prague, Amsterdam and Berlinale, he directed his first feature documentary Georgi and the Butterflies (2004) which won the Silver Wolf prize at IDFA and was presented at more than 70 festivals all over the world. His second film The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories (2007) premiered at the International Critic's Week in Cannes and won numerous trophies, including Special Mention in Karlovy Vary IFF, Grand Prix at Docufest in Prizren, the Human Rights Award in Sarajevo FF and the Grierson Award at the BFI London Film Festival. The Boy Who Was a King (2011), Andrey's third full-lenght documentary, recently premiered at Toronto.
