He graduated the Film Academy in Lodz, Poland. He was a pupil of Andjey Wajda. His film "Memory" awarded a prize in Locarno '75. "Stars in Hair, tears In the Eyes" won the "Golden Orange" in Antalia, Turkey and participated in London and Sidney. "Ivan and Alexandra" won the "Golden Rose" in Varna, Bulgaria '88, "Golden Placket" in Chicago '89 and Special Prize of Jury in Montecatini'89.
