The tenth anniversary of the Future Frames - Generation NEXT of European Cinema marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between European Film Promotion (EFP) and the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF). This year`s festival, scheduled from 28 June-6 July, will feature ten exceptional film students and graduates.

Selected by KVIFF artistic director Karel Och and his team, the filmmakers were nominated by their respective national film-promotion institutes. The 2024 edition, supported by the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme of the European Union and in cooperation with KVIFF and Allwyn, a leading multi-national lottery operator, promises to introduce audiences to a diverse range of cinematic voices.

This year’s cohort boasts several award-winning filmmakers. Lucía G Romero won the Best Short Film Crystal Bear for Cura sana at the Berlin International Film Festival (Generation 14plus). Hilke Rönnfeldt received the Golden Leopard for Best International Short Film for A Study of Empathy at the 2023 Locarno Film Festival. Emanuela Muzzupappa`s Love’s Servant earned a Special Mention at the 2024 Trieste Film Festival. Additionally, three directors premiered their films at renowned festivals: Marie-Magdalena Kochová`s 3 MWh at IFFR, Marthe PetersBaldilocks at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale Shorts 2024), and Katarína Gramatová`s A Good Mind Grows in Thorny Places at the Krakow Film Festival.

The selected directors will participate in a comprehensive two-part schedule, beginning with an online pre-programme that includes pitching training and industry meetings. During the festival, the filmmakers and their works will be introduced to the public, film-industry professionals and the press. The on-site event, running from 30 June, will culminate in a master class designed to provide further insights and development opportunities.
