Cristian Mungiu’s new feature film R.M.N., was selected for Cannes’s Official Competition of the 75th Cannes Film Festival (17-28 May 2022). Cristian Mungiu has been in Cannes from the very beginning, when his debut feature Temple Film was selected for Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in 2002. This is his 6th selection for Cannes, the 5th for the Official Selection and the 4th for the Competition.
Metronom, the debut feature by Alexandru Belc, was selected in Un Certain Regard., along with the Croatian minority coproduction Butterfly Vision, directed by Maksym Nakonechnyi. The film is a coproduction between Ukraine, Czech Republic, Croatia and Sweden.
A total of 17 films were selected, joining the 47 films unveiled on April 14 as well as Elvis and Top Gun: Maverick, which were announced earlier. This brings the total number of films in selection so far to 66 against 83 in last year’s special July edition.
Among the 17 new titles, seven are French films.
