Milcho Manchevski Shoots Kaymak

The Academy Award nominated Macedonian film director Milcho Manchevski started shooting his seventh feature film Kaymak, produced by Banana Film, in Skopje. The shooting, which started on 6 July 2021, will last for five weeks on five locations in the capital.

Kaymak (meaning buttercream) is a taboo-busting black comedy of haves and have-nots: when a rich couple and a poor couple who live too close to each other get involved in separate threesomes, the consequences are tragic. Personal desires, family secrets and class relations are all exposed on the journey into the unconventional.

The cast includes Kamka Tocinovski and Sara Klimoska, who starred in Manchevski`s sixth feature Willow / Vrba, Aleksandar Mikic, Ana Stojanovska, who starred in his Mothers / Majki, Simona Spirovska, Petar Mircevski, Filip Trajkovic.

The film is produced by Jane Kortoshev through Banana Film. Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen and Mette Børch are coproducing through Danish Meta Films, Dutch coproducers are Isabella Depeweg and Els Vandevorst of N279 Entertainment. Sinisa Juricic is coproducing through Croatian Jaako dobra produkcija, and Ivan Doykov through Bulgarian Dare Films. The executive producer is Ian Prior from UK`s Scala Productions. The team also includes filmmakers from England, Italy and Serbia.

The coproduction between North Macedonia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Croatia and Bulgaria is supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency with 487,805 EUR / 30 m MKD, as well as by the Danish Film Institute, the Netherlands Film Fund, Bulgarian National Film Center and Croatian Audiovisual Centre. Macedonian Radio Television is also coproducing. The film also received support from the European fund Eurimages. According to the financial structure of the film, the state participates with 48 percent, and 52 percent of the funds come from abroad. The film’s main partners are Alkaloid, NLB Bank and Visa, and other partners are Octa, Tikves, Vitaminka and Limak.

The postproduction of Kaymak will take place in the coproducing countries.
