Synopsis:

The documentary film “We were the world champions ” is dedicated to the phenomenon of Yugoslav basketball; from its first years after World War II until the World Championship in Ljubljana in 1970 when Yugoslavia’s national team won its first gold medal. The film follows a story of four visionaries Nebojsa Popovic, Bora Stankovic, Radomir Saper and Aleksandar Nikolic, founders of YU basketball school and sees how the seeds they planted 30 years earlier turned into something unimaginable: the national team of Yugoslavia, lead by head coach Ranko Zeravica, captured the world gold in Ljubljana’s “Tivoli“ arena. This essential piece of Yugoslav basketball history is visualized in both an emotional and a humorous way with over 40 different interviewees and stories.
