Exile Island

Synopsis:

During the period 1947-52, an “innovative” experiment was being carried out just a few miles away from Athens. The purpose of the experiment was the “rehabilitation” of Greek leftists. The site of the experiment was the remote island of Makronissos. More than 100,000 people suffered in the “National Rehabilitation Camp”. Many of them died or lost their minds. Others recanted their beliefs, while some became the torturers of their former comrades. Many of the survivors are still living as are quite a few of those in the opposite camp. Four persons on both sides of this historical drama are the main characters in this documentary.
