An Encomium to Slowness

Synopsis:

On the occasion of the millenium the concept of time has turned out to be the main topic of discussion in the industry of the spectacle. But who manages time today and who determines the "milestones"? "It's the stock market that marks time which is the old year giving way to the new and is measured by clocks" replies the film's narrator. He is an invisible hero who is perceived only through a first person confessional narration and "inhabits" the bodies of children, passerby, old people, city and country folk but also actors who portray different rhythms of the human body. The film's hero is born like a firework, together with the explosion of the millennium. Growing up, he experiences everything in a rush: play, knowledge, writing, work, food, travel, love. From video games to fast - food and phone sex his life is built on a distorted management of time. At the same time, through interviews, ordinary people confess their need to defend the values inherent in slowness, in the duration of human actions. Finally, through the art of Rodin's sculpture images of the diverse rhythms of nature but also of the human body, convey a new the measure of a lost sense of equilibrium.
