The North Macedonia Film Agency is again present at the 77th Cannes Film Festival from May 14-25, 2024 to promote Macedonian film.

The stand is located at SEE Pavilion 131 – Village International Riviera.

From the latest film production supported by the Film Agency, the Greek-Macedonian co-production Kyuka – Before Summer’s End, directed and written by Kostis Charamountanis, had its world premiere as part of the Cannes’s parallel section ACID. The film was screened on Wednesday 15th MAY at 8.00pm in Les Arcades 1 (presented by the film crew) as an opening film of the 32nd edition of the ACID program. The film is produced by Heretik (Greece) and co-rpoduced by List Production (North Macedonia).

Among other things, Macedonian producer Angela Nestorovska (Sektor Film) was selected among the 20 Producers in Producers on the Move, a program of European Film promotion, an international network for film promotion where the Film Agency is a member. Nestorovska joined Sektor Film in 2005 and has produced such films as Alex Cvetkov’s short drama Soil, Stefan Komandarev’s Directions, selected for Un Certain Regard in 2017, and co-produced Klara Kochańska and Kasper Bajon’s Via Carpatia competing in Karlovy Vary in 2018. She recently co-produced Asimina Proedrou’s debut feature Behind the Haystacks and is currently in post-production on Thanasis Neofotistos’s The Boy with Light Blue Eyes. In addition, Nestorovska is in pre-production on Marko Gjokovik’s Tenant and developing Angel Apostolski’s A Bear for Comrade Kim.

In addition, the project Spring Cleaning by Marija Apcevska–Petrovska, produced by Kino Oko, and written by Apcevska–Petrovska and Erenik Bekiri, is one of the 10 projects selected at the 16th edition of La Fabrique Cinéma de INSTITUT FRANÇAIS to recognize and promote filmmakers and producers from around the world. This is the first Macedonian project selected in this program.

Apart from this successful presentation of Macedonian cinematography at the Cannes Film Festival, the Film Agency realizes a series of activities aimed at the affirmation of Macedonian film at one of the most important film festivals in the world.

The Macedonian stand in the SEE pavilion is a place where the Macedonian delegation from the Film Agency presents the latest developments in our cinematography and conducts meetings for future co-production collaborations. Extensive promotional material has been prepared for this purpose.

All those present at the Film Market who visited the SEE pavilion and are interested in potential future collaborations and initiatives had the opportunity to meet with a representative from the Agency, Veronika Buchkovska and Maja Marić, a representative from MEDIA Desk MK.
