While films have a broad appeal, those who watch them can generally be split into two groups: those who prefer big block-busters and others who tend to enjoy the experience of watching more artistic films in the company of other like-minded individuals. For those who belong to the second group of people there is much to see in Paphos.
Starting off tomorrow, the Cyprus International Film Festival Golden Aphrodite (CYIFF) will kick off. The ten-day festival will feature a number of films for all tastes at the Neopolis University Amphitheatre and the Attikon Cinema, and also a number of parallel events. These include the International Film Co-production Development masterclass that will take place at the Neapolis amphitheatre on June 24. The masterclass will be run by German film director and producer Ansgar Ahlers. Also on June 24, there will be a round table discussion under the name Women Filming in Greece and Cyprus, again at the Neapolis university.
A full list of screenings can be found at http://cyiff.cineartfestival.eu/en/festival/program/.
On Thursday, the Kimonos Art Centre will also host a discussion with film director Peter Stephanou from 8pm to 9pm. Stephanou will present his film WhyTalkFeminism? and will hold an open discussion about the highs and lows of documentary filmmaking.
Another highlight of the festival will be on Saturday when director Mazin Sherabayani will present his documentary "Sama` at the art centre at 5.30pm. "Sama" is a documentary about Robar and her family who are determined to establish a professional ballet dance group in Iraq despite the threats, lack of funds and a place to practise.
